“Down here” in the NFL, & other pro sports, for that matter, while most teams use their city as the location part of their names, you have a few state or even regional names. Granted, the latter doesn’t exist in the NBA, but in their developmental league, you do have the Dakota Wizards and the Erie BayHawks. And, 1 team in “the association” itself – the Golden State Warriors – uses its state’s nickname.
The NFL has state names with the Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, & Tennessee Titans and regional names with the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, & Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Listing the 26 who use their cities would take forever . . . and I’m just too dog-gone lazy. Really, Carolina and Tampa Bay are regional names because it would be state if you added North or city if you dropped Bay, respectively. I guess, since I mentioned it, the same goes for Dakota in the NBA-DL.
Up in the CFL, you have 6 teams that use their cities (Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Eskimos, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts, & Winnipeg Blue Bombers) while the other 2 use their provinces (British Columbia Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders). It is assumed that the 9th team will be the Ottawa Something-or-others.
That is why, assuming it’s down to a battle between Moncton, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia for team #10, I would like the location part to be either Maritime or Atlantic.

Oh, my goodness! Griffining? Seriously?
Another team being called dirty.
Move over, Saints and Lions; you have some company, the Chiefs.
Bills center Eric Wood said, “Two plays in a row they’re taking cheap shots at us.” He also accused the Chiefs of “trying to take a guy’s arm out of the socket and twist a guy’s head under the pile.”
Redskins’ Orakpo, Carriker out for season
The Redskins lost both OLB Brian Orakpo and DE Adam Carriker for the season.
Orakpo has a chest injury similar to that which ended his 2011 season while Carriker tore a quadricep tendon.
Both players are scheduled for surgery later this week.
Fallen Marine honored at brother’s HS football game
I was on StumbleUpon Monday night and found something I really found wonderful.
Check out this video of Oceanside (NY) High School honoring alumnus Gregory T. Buckley, Jr.
His brother, Justin, plays on Oceanside’s football team and, according to Gregory, Sr., believes that his brother has been watching him play from afar.
